Senator Coverup (R-KS)

image

ThinkProgress.org has compiled a “history“ of Senator Pat Roberts’ complicity in hiding the truth about the Administration’s handling of intelligence matters.  Makes for an interesting read.

As chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Sen. Pat Roberts’s (R-KS) duty is “to provide vigilant legislative oversight over the intelligence activities of the United States” and “to assure that such activities are in conformity with the Constitution and laws of the United States.” But on the most important intelligence issues facing Americans – such as the manipulation of Iraq intelligence, warrantless domestic spying, and torture - Roberts has transformed his committee into a “Senate Coverup Committee” for the Bush administration.

Fox Gone Wild

image

I guess I need to spend more time watching Fox News.

When one is in the business of correcting conservative misinformation, one spends a great deal of time watching Fox News Channel—America’s foremost purveyor of conservative misinformation.

After many thousands of hours of viewing Fox News’ stable of anchors, correspondents, and spinmeisters, one begins to see patterns emerge in FNC’s programming: on-screen text that bashes Democrats, reporters adopting White House terminology, etc. But after a while, the din of GOP talking points and anti-liberal screeds slowly fade and an altogether different pattern emerges.

A person idly watching Fox News all day, for example, has an excellent chance of glancing at the screen and seeing some partial nudity or a male Fox News personality hitting on a female colleague on the air. Scantily clad women and on-air sexual harassment are the orders of the day over at Fox News Channel.

Senate Committee Rejects Bid for NSA Inquiry

This is repulsive.  The US Senate Select Committee on Intelligence has decided to not investigate the administration’s possibly illegal wiretaps.  Of course, we won’t know if the president did something illegal since no one is going to FUCKING INVESTIGATE! Anyone want to place a bet that if a congressman’s phone was tapped, there would be 100 investigations?  Repulsive and shameful.

Senate Republicans on Tuesday agreed to expand oversight of President George W. Bush’s domestic spying program but rejected Democratic pressure for a broad inquiry into eavesdropping on U.S. citizens.

Senate Lobbying Changes (?)

image

This is the best they can do?  And they wonder why we think they are all crooks.

Legislation to curb excesses of both lobbyists and lawmakers reached the Senate floor Monday as leaders from both parties warned that the integrity of Congress is at stake.

Katrina Timeline

For all of you who have been following the recent headlines about the Government’s response to Hurricane Katrina, here is a handy timeline from ThinkProgress.org.

Remember, if we don’t hold them accountable, then who will?

Flavor of Something

image

Ok, for the last few months, my wife and I have been addicted to Flavor of Love on VH1.  It is like watching a trainwreck.  We can’t help ourselves.  It is hysterical to watch these women fight for the attention of Flavor Flav.  The question that keeps running through my head is, “They do realize this is Flavor Flav, right?” I mean, seriously, people!  What the hell?  It is not like he is George Clooney*

* this comment is in no way indicative that I am sexually attracted to Mr. Clooney.  Seriously.  I swear.

Strength

I found this over at my brother’s site and I just had to cross-post.  Enjoy your Sunday.

Americans respect education. We respect societies that value education. We don’t respect societies who intentionally hinder some in their midst from getting an education. We respect women. We don’t respect those who do not respect women. We respect self-reliance. We don’t respect those that fail to achieve and then blame others for their failures. We respect Free Speech. We don’t respect those that attempt to limit, block, or intimidate Free Speech.

We respect strength, but only if used to help others. We respect warriors, but only those that defend others, or who defend freedom. Warriors that kill to limit freedom, or warriors that kill those that are not a threat, are warriors we do not respect.

We don’t respect those that demand respect by threats, as opposed to those who earn respect by deeds. We know the difference between respect and fear. We don’t respect thugs and others who confuse respect with fear.

The Wacko Factor

image

O’Reilly has apparently flipped his lid!  LOL!

On the March 2 broadcast of Westwood One’s The Radio Factor, host Bill O’Reilly threatened to turn over the personal information of a caller to “Fox security” because the caller mentioned MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann. As Media Matters for America has noted, in recent weeks, Olbermann has repeatedly awarded O’Reilly the “Worst Person in the World” designation during his show, MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann. O’Reilly has responded, on several occasions, by asserting that MSNBC “is a true ratings disaster.” The caller began by telling O’Reilly, “I like to listen to you during the day.” Continuing, the caller stated, “I think Keith Olbermann’s show,” at which point O’Reilly disconnected the call, proclaiming: “Mike is—he’s a gone guy. You know, we have his—we have your phone numbers, by the way. So, if you’re listening, Mike, we have your phone number, and we’re going to turn it over to Fox security, and you’ll be getting a little visit."

The Duke-stir Gets 8

image

Good.  He is getting off easy in my opinion though.

Former Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham, who collected $2.4 million in homes, yachts, antique furnishings and other bribes on a scale unparalleled in the history of Congress, was sentenced Friday to eight years and four months in prison, the longest term meted out to a congressman in decades.

Dominion Theology (Christian Reconstruction)

This group scares me.  If you have never heard of them, don’t worry.  They are the ones leading the organizations of the Christian Right.  Learn more about them before it is too late.

Reconstruction is the spark plug behind much of the battle over religion in politics today. The movement’s founder, theologian Rousas John Rushdoony, claimed 20 million followers—a number that includes many who embrace the Reconstruction tenets without having joined any organization. Card-carrying Reconstructionists are few, but their influence is magnified by their leadership in Christian right crusades, from abortion to homeschooling.
