I have been thinking about kids going to bed hungry.  I don’t know why.  But we have a real problem in this country: children going to bed without food.  It is shameful that we live in the most prosperous country in the world and our own citizens go hungry.  What can you do?  Start by donating to a charity like Second Harvest.  You can also find your local food bank and donate food and your time to them.  You could even start a food drive at your office.  I have done that.  It is easy.  Put a box out.  Simple.  All of these thing individually are small.  However, together we can help fix this problem.

To give you an idea of what your donation means, according to the Maryland Food Bank, a $1 donation buys $14 worth of food.  I have set a goal of raising $500 by the end of October.  That $500 will byy $7000 worth of food.  Another way of looking at it is that $1 donation will buy 6.8 meals.  So, our collective $500 will buy 3,400 meals.  It will be the best investment (and that is what it is - an investment in the future) you have ever made.
